Starting back up at 60...

I've been watching the RP YouTube channel for a while and was intrigued.  I decided to sign up for a 6 month subscription to the app after I watched the video "How Does Aging Affect Your Size, Strength, and Training?" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8zcF6Ut7lo) wherein Dr. Mike was very informative and I thought altogether made a lot of sense.

I am 60 years old. I haven't worked out seriously in the gym in probably 7 or 8 years, though I've done a fair amount of biking.  I was doing double-centuries (200 miles in one day) back in 2019, but not nearly so hard since.  My fitness level is "ok".

I've got my first mesocycle setup - Whole Body, 3x per week and I'm heading to the gym for the first time on Monday (today is Friday).  I read the help text on "Warming up and choosing a starting weight" and watched the cited videos.  I'm still not sure how best to get those starting weights since it's been forever.

In the video about workouts and age, Dr. Mike stresses if you are old you really want to avoid injury.  Stresses it! Given that, I'm thinking of just doing warm-up/starting weight reps with pretty low weight and "guesstimate" from there, erring on the side of lighter.

I'm assuming the bio-feedback aspect of the app will get me up to a "real" working weight after a few times doing an exercise, even starting from "too light", and that's probably my best bet to get to where I'm making gains without risking overdoing it and getting injured.

Sound about right?

Congratulations on getting back into it!

I'm not an expert, but at 67 I am making the best gains of my life using the app.  I think my greatest learning, and the thing that has made the biggest difference, is understanding what "effective reps" are all about.  Don't be afraid to experiment with the rep ranges and the amount of weight, as long as you are getting into the "effective rep range" in a set.  Good luck, and have some fun!
